Osmanthus Charcoal Roasted Oolong is obviously our most favourite tea from Taiwanese selection of this year. We are totally in love with this amazing roast by a tea master Ming Chun as much as a material by itself. Made in a similar way to Jasmine tea, in the final stages of processing, the leaves are charcoal roasted with fresh osmanthus blossoms. This slow roasting gradually caramelizes the natural sugars within the tea and imparts body and layers of complexity. Many of the roasted oolongs you'll find today are 'qing xiang' or 'light fragrance' style, popularized by modern Taiwanese tea makers, this oolong is an homage to the traditional old school style of tea making
In a heated up gaiwan it enveloped with warm and comforting aromas of all most sweetest goodies that a coffee roaster nose only could dream about. There are fresh osmanthus flowers perfectly integrated with an aroma of fresh sweet apricot pulp, caramelised peach, vanilla, brown butter and burnt sugar.
In the cup we find endless lingering sweetness lasting over through all multiple infusions, endless florals and amazing roast flavours with hint of coffee and chocolate. This Oolong is lasting much longer then any tea from our Taiwanese selection of this year. It has multiple layers of sweetness but also a great huigan and the insanly long lasting finish that travels with you hours and hours after a tea session is ended.
